In my design the large red and yellow community symbol in the center represents the City of Adelaide as well as the people who call the region home, the women are represented by the U symbols with coolamons and digging sticks and the men are represented through the U symbols with spears. Surrounding this community symbol is the Torrens River which along with the other surrounding rivers, helps to bring life to city. Some of Adelaide’s most iconic locations also surround this community symbol, many of these icons and landmarks draw tourists and travellers into Adelaide, making it the renowned tourist destination that it is today, filled with amazing sights, flavours, drinks and events. This includes the Adelaide Hills and the world-famous distilleries and food which can be found there and within surrounding regions, Adelaide Town Hall, The Adelaide Botanic Gardens and the Bicentennial Conservatory, Adelaide Oval, St Peters Cathedral, The Art Gallery of South Australia and Adelaide’s tallest building Crowne Plaza.

The South Australian Animal Emblem which is the Hairy nosed wombat is in the bottom right corner or the artwork and the bird Emblem which is the Magpie is flying in the top left corner. The floral emblem is the Sturt Desert Pea and is around the edge of the piece with the States colours of blue, red and yellow have been incorporated throughout the design.

The boomerang, handprints and community symbol in the bottom left of the artwork represents the traditional custodians of the region, who have lived on and nurtured the lands for over 65,000 years, as well as the culture, history and connection they have with the Adelaide region. That is where the footprints and journey begins, they lead from the past to present Adelaide City today, modern, multicultural and bustling, the footprints then lead onto a brighter future, represented by the Sun. The travelling lines and community symbols in blue represents people travelling to Adelaide from different communities and regions, large and small, with the outlining colours symbolising the different environments they travel from. The red is the desserts and outback, blue is the coastlines and waterways and green and aqua is the bush, rainforests and agricultural lands.

The elements in the background surrounded by blue dots symbolise the many methods of transportation and the reasons why people love to travel, whether it’s by train, ship or hot air balloon, a short trip, a well-deserved holiday, or a much needed reunion with family, whether traveling from near or far, from around our beautiful Country or from abroad, everyone has a unique reason to travel and Adelaide accommodates them all, with the dots and lines in the background connecting them all together.
